Nelson Lewis marked heavy round ball bench gun approximately 45 caliber. Back action lock, double set triggers, steel buttplate pewter forend tip. 1 1/2" diameter 33" octagon barrel is marked on three lines N. Lewis, Maker, Troy, N.Y., and on right side rear of barrel "U.S. 108" barrel has a dovetail at the muzzle with two screw holes and three pairs of small threaded screw holes on top flat for scope bases. Rifled false muzzle and short starter. Small stable crack from lock bolt to the barrel (see photo).

Nelson Lewis was a general gun maker from Troy, New York from c.1840s-1880s. He was known for making flintlock pistols but later made target rifles used by the famous Berdan Sharpshooters (1st and 2nd U.S. Sarpshooters).
