Sharps & Hankins Model 1861. NAVY RIFLE. Cal. 52 RF. low three digit serial number. 32 1/2” barrel with bayonet lug fitted and standard rear sight. Sliding action, receiver marked “SHARPS” “PATENT” “1859” on left & “SHARPS” “&” “HANKINS” “PHILA’DA” on right. American walnut stock has brass buttplate. Forend with steel cap forend held by 2 spring retained barrel bands & rear barrel band with screws. CONDITION: fair to good. Metal parts have near full coverage of fine pitting, rifling is near excellent. Stocks refinished over numerous deep marks, dings and discolorations commensurate with the age of the firearm. Buttstock has a very fine, stable crack on either side of the comb emmenating from the upper tang toward butt (it is so fine we could not get it to show in the photos)along with a piece of wood missing at the heel of the stock next to the buttplate. Bore is very good. Mechanically excellent. An important and rare Civil War rifle as most these were carbines. This is an antique rifle and can ship direct to customer in most states.
