Cimarron Firearms imported Uberti made cowboy action shooting version of the 1851 Richards - Mason Cartridge Conversion. Reproduction made by Aldo Uberti & Co. -38 Special (no + P ammo), In 1871 Colt employee Charles Richards was awarded a patent for converting 1851 Colt Navy percussion revolvers to a breech loading cartridge revolver. In 1872 William Mason, another Colt employee, was awarded a patent for an improvement to the Richards model and the 1851 Richards-Mason Conversion model revolver was born. As percussion parts ran short, the 1860 Richards-Mason barrel was changed from earlier octagon percussion model profile to the round barreled sleek profile found on the 1871-2 Open Top.
