U.S./Springfield Armory Model 1898 Krag Bolt-Action CUT DOWN RIFLE! This rifle is cut down from a rifle. Box Magazine Rifle (repeater/ breech-loading/ smokeless powder/ cartridge ammunition) with a very good bore. The barrel has a Lyman marked brass bead front sight, the windage adjustable rear sight is marked to 2000 yards. The stock has a 1900 cartouche on the left side of the wrist. Receiver is marked U.S. Model 1898 Springfield Armory.

The Krag Model 1898 Rifle was the first smokeless powder repeating firearm adopted by the United States. Because U.S. smokeless powder manufacture was lagging, sufficient quantities of these arms were not available to national forces as war broke out with Spain. When the U.S. Navy battleship MAINE blew up in Spanish Cuba's Havana harbor, it made little difference who was at fault.
