The 1888 Ramrod Bayonet Trapdoor Springfield where the last rifles issued only 66,713 made, some saw service in the Spanish American War. The breech block is marked U.S. Model 1884 with a script P proof stamped in the wood behind the trigger.  The inspector cartouche is dated 1892 and have the inspectors initials of SWP (Samuel W. Porter). The butt plate has a trap but nothing inside, sorry. The stock is solid with no breaks but does show dings and dents from over 120 years of use, the right side of the stock has a circle with the initials J.C(this is not a cartouche), the number 915 is stamped on the comb. The barrel has a good bore with strong rifling and some pitting. The barrel is brown with areas of pitting the remaining metal parts are brown. The left side of the receiver has an iron cross stamped on it and it appears to have been there a long time. Please call and ask questions as we do not refund shipping charges!!!
